About Us

The Firehawks is a youth lacrosse club dedicated to bringing the sport of lacrosse to kids on the Peninsula.  We primarily draw players from San Carlos, Redwood City, Belmont, Atherton, Woodside and Menlo Park, although membership on the club is not restricted to a geographic area.  Players south of Menlo Park are encouraged to join our neighbor club, the Tomahawks, and players north of Belmont are encouraged to join the Coyotes.

We are committed to learning, playing and loving lacrosse.  Firehawks coaches are much more than athletic directors. They use their passion for lacrosse as the foundation to help kids build character and learn critical life skills from understanding the value of hard work and respect, to giving back to the community. Ask a Firehawks player about the 4 Cs of lacrosse, and they tell you: Commitment, Competition, Connection and Community.

2008 was our second season as a competitive lacrosse team, and we are on FIRE!  We grew to eight teams - the Firestarters (1st-2nd grade), Pee Wee A and Pee Wee B (3rd-4th grade), Pups A and Pups B (5th-6th grade), Juniors B-1 and B-2 (7-8th grade), and our new girls team (3-4th grade).   The Pee Wee B and Pups A teams made it to the, with our pups team capturing 3rd place and the pee wee B team winning 4th place in Northern California.

In 2009, we will move to age classifications for boys:  U-9, U-11, U-13 and U-15 (12/31 birthday cutoff) and will add an additional girls team (5-6th grade).  It's incredible that in just two short years we will have grown from three teams to ten teams - a true testament to the incredible growth of the sport and the popularity of the Firehawks program.  We will have the Firestarters, one U-9 team, two U-11 teams (A and B divsions), two U-13 teams (A and B-1 divisions), two U-15 teams (A and B divisions), and two girls team (3rd-4th grade, and 5-6th grade).

Community Service

All players are required to participate in a community service project to "give back" to the community. In 2007, over 100 players and parents did an Earth Day clean up project at Sequoia High School, and planted a redwood tree.  In 2008 we participated in the Shelter Network, where each family "adopted" a family in need and provided gifts and comfort items during the holidays.  We will also do another project for 2009.

League

The Firehawks Club is a member of the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association (NCJLA), the governing body for youth lacrosse clubs in Northern California. These teams are located throughout Northern California, from Monterey to Marin, and from San Francisco to Sacramento. There are currently 275 youth teams in the NCJLA.

2009 Season
