When is registration for the spring teams?
All players must try out for a spring team during fall lacrosse.  After the tryouts, players who are invited to join the Firehawks register in November.

My son/daughter is only interested in playing lacrosse in the spring. Does he have to play fall lacrosse?
Yes. We use the fall to evaluate players for placement on the spring teams, and as tryouts for new players. Any interested players must try out for a spring team during fall lacrosse. It isn’t necessary that he or she go to all of the fall sessions, but they should go to as many as possible so they can be evaluated.

My son/daughter is brand new to lacrosse. How can he/she get on a Firehawks team?
Given the high growth of the sport, the popularity of the Firehawks and the limited space on the club, it can be very difficult for new players to join the Firehawks. Priority is given to current Firehawk players for registration for spring teams. As we have nearly 100% return rate, that means there are only a few available spots each year created when the older kids move on to high school and the younger players age up to a different team. We also primarily feed the club at the younger levels (K/1 and U9) and those players move up through the club.

The only way for a new player to get on a team is to try out in the fall for one of the available spots. There typically are only a few new open spots every year. We may be able to add additional teams next year if we are able to get field space, but that isn’t known yet.

My son/daughter has been on the waitlist for over a year. When will he/she get on a team?
The waitlist is a list of players interested in trying out for a team.  It is not on a first come, first served basis.  All new players must try out for a team in the fall. The players on our waitlist will be notified when we have try outs.

How do the try outs work?
Fall lacrosse is 100% inter-squad scrimmaging. New players are thrown into the “fire” and start playing scrimmages on the first day. It is highly recommended that new players attend a summer lacrosse camp and work on stick skills in preparation for the fall. There is a list of summer camps on the Firehawks website. The coaches evaluate players by watching them in the scrimmages and getting to know them. In new players, the coaches look for athleticism (mostly speed and coordination) and positive attitude. We are a focused club with a high commitment level and a positive coaching environment. We are not as concerned with stick skills and knowledge of the game, which we will teach and the players will quickly learn. A positive attitude and community and team spirit is essential.

Does playing fall lacrosse guarantee my son/daughter a spot on a  Firehawks spring team?

No. It is likely that there will be only a few open spots on spring teams, and we will fill those spots by selecting among the new players trying out in the fall.  For some teams, 10-15 players may be trying out for only a few open spots.

What if my son/daughter is playing other fall sports and has no time for fall lacrosse?
If you are not sure your son or daughter will have time to play fall lax due to other sports commitments, please register anyway so you are in the system and select the "pay later" option. It's important that he or she attend some scrimmages, but it's expected that many of the players will be involved in other fall sports.

My son/daughter plays for a different club team in the area. Can he switch to the Firehawks?
We prefer that players do not switch clubs from season to season, as it can disrupt the positive development of the sport and the competition among the clubs.  Players should play for the club team that they live closest to.

What if my son can't get on a Firehawks team? Are there other area teams he can play on?
The are two other very good clubs in the area - the Tomahawks, which is located in Palo Alto (www.tomahawkslacrosse.org), and the Coyotes, which is located in Burlingame (www.coyoteslacrosse.org).
