FIREHAWKS LACROSSE
SUPPORTS INTERNATIONAL LACROSSE
We have three primary focuses in Scotland.
1. Create a youth lacrosse program
2. Support the development of Domestic Players
3. Field the best National Team possible
It may seem odd, but there is no boys youth lacrosse in Scotland. Scottish men do not pick up the game until they reach university where they can join a lacrosse club. We hope to assist Lacrosse Scotland in the development of Boys youth lacrosse and support those programs in their growth.
For domestic players at the University and club level the desire to get good is there but very little coaching is available for them. We will work to both train domestic coaches and continue to send experienced coaches over to Scotland for on field and coaches clinics.
The Scottish National Team is completely self funded. Each individual pays their own way. The result of this is that player selection for the National Team is in part based on ones ability to pay for the trip. We hope to change that and give Scotland the chance to field its best side at the 2020 Euros and 2022 Worlds.
Our Mens Director, Brian Silcott is currently the Head coach of the Scottish Men's Team and travels several times a year to coach players off all skill level in Scotland.
Our Support for Jamaica Women's Lacrosse is centered on providing playing opportunities on the international stage for young women coming up in the domestic school programs in the Kingston area.
Jamaica Lacrosse has done a fantastic job developing local programs in the Kingston, Jamaica but it is very difficult for these young ladies to pay their own way for international events. They recently finished 3rd in the PALA Wold Championship Qualifiers but several players were unable to attend for financial reasons and the team was forced to take the field with only 16 of 23 roster spots filled. Our goal is to ensure that Jamaica fields the best team possible for the 2021 Worlds in MD.
Additionally we hope to support Jamaica lacrosse in the growth of its domestic program in Kingston and beyond through funding, coaching, consulting and coaches training. Beyond that we plan to support personal development outside of lacrosse through workshops and educational experiences designed to help these young women meet their full potential in life.
Our Girls director Karen Healy currently plays for Jamaica and helped lead them to their Bronze Medal at the PALA Qualifiers. This gives us direct access to the the National Team and domestic programs. Karen and Brian Silcott will be running a free clinic in Jamaica over the Winter Holiday.
